. ID No.29062011 Syzygium for ID_1: Please check Syzygium zeylanicum As far as I know the leaves of Syzygium zeylanicum are much smaller and shorter, the fruits are smaller and white. I have got some pictures of S. zeylanicum. Leaf size varies as per shade and water availability. Here the leaves and brown branch-lets (including flowering and fruiting inflorescence branches as well) are very much matches with characters of S. zeylanicum. Yes, as you said the fruits are white for S. zeylanicum. But I think that it turns to white at maturity. When it is young it is light green I guess. This is very much similar to the ones that I use to see in Sringeri and other places in Karnataka. The only exception is the color of fruits that, I guess, is because these fruits are immature. I request … also to have a look at this post and try sort things out. Does not matches with Syzygium inophyllum as per the following: Also fruits looks different from images at Syzygium zeylanicum (L.) DC. and those available on net. Can it be Syzygium salicifolium (Wight) J.Graham as per images herein although I could not find any fruit image on net ? . Syzygium sp_ Goa for identification: 3 images- 1 high res. Sharing a Syzygium sp from Southern Goa for identification. I thought Syzygium caryophyllatum but it seems like a bigger tree and leaves appear different/ larger thanS. caryophyllatum. Location- Forest area Canacona, South Goa Habit-Wild Tree, height 7-8 m approximate Photographed – April 2023 Flowering with lots of bees on it. Please confirm which Syzygium sp it is. Maybe It was not S cumini. Any other options? Why do you say that it is not S cumini, quite a wide spread and a variable species? the tree I observed looked different from S cumini. We observe S. cumini very often and we do identify it with leaves. But this tree had a different appearance. If you check the flower buds of various species at https://efloraofindia.com/2011/04/01/syzygium-cumini/ You will see that it only matches well with S cumini. Could that Syzygium species be Syzygium salicifolium? Flower matches with S. salicifolium I am unable to decide between the two (S. cumini & Syzygium salicifolium) as per descriptions: https://indiabiodiversity.org/species/show/246655 http://www.efloras.org/florataxon.aspx?flora_id=2&taxon_id=200014832 Maybe … is able to clarify. |
