herb for id mm1 16102011: 2 images. very small flowers
no bigger than 3 or 4 mm would very much appreciate an id Looks like Ludwigia octovalvis This is Ludwigia perennis of Onagraceae family. It is interesting As per the key provided in this link ( http://www.efloras.org/florataxon.aspx?flora_id=2&taxon_id=119063) and the description and illustrations therein shows that the stem leaf margin of L. octovalvis is hairy and the same for L. perennis is glabrous. In this pictures, though it is not very clear, seems that the plant is glabrous. ludwigia species mm1 16102011: 2 images. Got some some more photographs yesterday
the plant seems glabrous without a hint of purple I still think that this is L. perennis. I am not aware of the two species in detail. Attaching my pictures of the plant seen near water body near Kaas Plateau which was IDed as L.octovalvis for comparison/Review again. Is this a hairy plant or a glabrus one? Further in L. octovalvis the sepals are 0.5-1.2cm long petals are 0.6-1.8cm long whereas, in L. perennis it is less than 0.5 cm for both sepals and petals I think you are right. That was the reason I posted the plant again. the flowers of this ludwigia were tiny, no more thean 5mm at the maximum, so that seems to rule out L. octovalvis Please refer the attached file. Many thanks for the article – never knew of L.decurrens, among a host of other things!! Would I be correct in assuming that a erect plant 1.5m, flower >2cms, Ludwigia sp1 (?) ID Hooghly 16/9/12 SK2: 6 images. Found this wild herb beside my home today.

ID correction GOPALNAGAR,WB OCTOBER,2016 : 3 posts by 2 authors. Attachments (1)
GOPALNAGAR, WB workout done. L. perennis I have identified the images posted as being Ludwigia prostrata following the keys in Rheedea Vol. 20 (1) 59-70 2010. Reference is available in thread ‘efloraofindia:89073’.
Must mention that the keys in Flora of China and Flora of Maharashtra are different but Rheeda reference is most recent & India specific. Flora of Maharashtra does not mention this species so am not sure whether it is documented in Maharashtra. Here’s my brief explanation for the id: – Plant erect. (-894) – Stem winged (-896), well branched & herbaceous throughout. – Stem and leaves glabrous. – Flower (-900): sepals 4, petals 4; sepal size 4-5mm, almost similar for petals also; – Capsule: as seen (-909) – Capsule and seeds (-903): as seen [uniseriate: arrangement of seeds in a single row] Numbers in brackets above are the last three digits of the respective images. Ruled out L. perennis as stem and branches were winged. Ruled out L. linifolia as stem not woody at base. Will be happy to visit the site again & / or provide additional information, if required. Would you please mention the number of stamens in your plant? Working on stamen number in existing images; I agree with your points. Initially I thought how come your plant L.prostarta is erect but later I read the description which states that the plant is semierect. Whenever you happen see this plant next, please count the number of stamens by dissecting the flowers. Number of stamens is crucial in confirming the id. It is just impossible to count the number of stamens from pictures because they are almost adhered to the pistil (surrounding).
I had to sacrifice 4 flowers to get the actual count of stamens that I would upload later.
Still processing the id.
I am still waiting for the number of stamens in this plant if the number of stamens is not 4 in this plant then this is not L. prostrata. BTW my plant also seems to have winged stem ….at least not cylindrical. There is L. decurrens with 4-winged stem with 8 stamens and here we have L. prostrata, again 4-winged stem but with 4 stamens so what determines the species here? Stamen count is four (4). Four stamens, this is undoubtedly L. prostrata. I think it should be Ludwigia perennis as per images and details herein and as per keys at Ludwigia.
Capsules here are not four angular, but terete as per keys.

I’d requested for shrub growing near water body. Ludwigia sp. Only. Resembles L.perennis, Thanks Sir. But in my post flowers has 5 petals. But in foi images all flowers has 4 petals in L.perennis please guide.
Also check for L.parviflora. This is only a suggestion. You’re welcome …, You can check e flora of India key of Ludwigia, there is clearly mentioned rarely pentamerous. And you can observe the forth image that has five petals And One more thing don’t relay too much for sp. On others because we are doing here photo taxonomy, Exact identification will do only which they have material, You can check with local floras of Ludwig keys then only you finalize sp. L.parviflora has both 4 petalled & 5 petalled plants. for Ludwigia, photographs are not enough.
You have to get hold of a regional flora or a key to Ludwigia species, have to sit by the plant and verify characters physically. Thanks, for the id.
Keys and comparative images at Ludwigia also lead me to Ludwigia perennis L. (syn: Ludwigia parviflora Roxb.)
