Yes … Only GBIF says it is the syn. Other links says differently. Flora of China gives the following keys:
From the above, it appears both are really close. Flowers neither appear to be corymbs or raceme nor in umbel.

When comparing both sp, Ardisia solanacea is double plant body then A elliptica entirely. eFlora of China says: But it is really difficult to judge the size of leaves from a photograph. Kindly note that the photographs were sent to me, i havent myself seen the live plant. Im assisting a young man who is making a native plant nursery to replant local species on the hill near his village in Madanapalle District, Andhra Pradesh. For some unknown reason, he is unwilling to directly engage with efloraofindia, tho i have showed how easy it is multiple number of times.
i have asked him to send me better pictures with better detail and more information on the dimensions when he is able to visit the location again with the purpose of collecting fruit and seeds for his nursery.
Im sorry that i cant help much in this endeavor to clarify Ardisia solanacea and A. elliptica at this point.

IDENTIICATION:
Attaching two images of a wild plant in bloom. I saw this plant for the first time at Tezpur (Assam). It is a small tree. The leaves are thick and the flowers are waxy. It bears berry and Bulbuls eat the berries.
I find this plant at Cooch Behar also.

This shrub is common in CKBS, Kolkata. I recorded it in Dec-2013, remained unidentified. I haven’t seen it in places in Hooghly I visited. The last photograph is of a seed (as far as I can remember).

Sir Prain, Haines and FBI think Ardisia solanacea of Flora Indica is synonymous with Ardisia humilis Vahl; a shrub. But TPL and FoC think otherwise.
What would be its correct ID?

నేరేడు neredu (or నేరెడు neredu), though finds an entry in Brown’s Dictionary for Ardisia humilis, (synonym of A. solanacea), it looks like being used as a generic name for plants bearing cherry or plum-like fruits. Thus using prefix like కాశి (Kaashi, Benares city) will separate it from అల్లోనేరేడు allo-neredu, భూతనేరేడు bhuta-neredu, జంబునేరేడు jambu-neredu. నక్కనేరేడు nakka-neredu, etc. you are perfectly correct in writing

I am not sure but கோழிக்கோட்டை seem to be fine. The name ‘kozhikotai’ கோழிக்கொடை (= chicken’s umbrella, referring to the shape of the flower) is also seem to be appropriate http://indiabiodiversity.org/species/show/7964.

The Tamil name ‘kandal’ is generally applied to mangrove plants. So, I would retain the name ‘narikandam’ நாரிக்கண்டம் here based on the reference/s.
The name கோழுருச்சி ‘kolurucci’ sounds legit, too.

I came across Ardisia humilis for the first time in a jungle at Tezpur (Assam). I brought a sapling from there. The plant gave flowers and fruits for few years. Now I find the plant in some bamboo groves at this place. Attaching a collage of the same.
Very nice! love the color and the pristine daintiness. i used called these porcelain flowers in my younger days not knowing botany at all then, in class 3 or 2. i have submitted one these here a few years ago. forget what was the final diagnosis. found it was called Ardisia littoralis I think your plant is closer to images and details at Ardisia solanacea (Poir.) Solanum look-alike flowers but NOT Solanum species ID PLEASE Garden Plant UD 001:2013: This plant was found growing in a friend’s garden in 2011 October… she did not know the name… this year its gone … so no further history as it developed.
When I photographed it, it was about 3 feet tall, new leaves were emerging, looking fresh. Largest leaf was about 10– 12 cms long , no hairs on top or bottom. The main stem was an inch thick and just becoming woody, so I suspect this would have been a shrub if developed, or even a bush. Not a herb by any means.
The flowers are vaguely reminiscent of the Solanum species but not really… flowers were 1.5 to 2 cms across , light pink somewhat fleshy petals.
The berries at that point were green, about 4 – 6 mm round … with a little black point of a dot.

hope this helps. The more I read FoC, FoAus (specially the inflorescence type) and FI the more I am confused. Finally, for obtuse tipped leaves I think it is A. elliptica Thunb.; syn. A umbellata Roxb., A. littoralis Andrews. Very tough, confusing, I regret why I didn’t use my scale, attached here KEY of some species by Prain and Haines and records by Roxburgh. Do you remember where exactly was it that you photographed it?
It may still be blooming, it seems its blooms around here now around durga puja time. My pictures were also at durga puja. Though this year when I went back to the same garden the plant itself was gone. Inside the garden I was totally at a loss. I fail to remember direction, we (my colleague was there) entered through Andul Rd gate went straight to the Great Banyan Tree, to Kyd monument, then took return path to AndulRd gate… this much I can remember!

Ardisia humilis Vahl have distribution in Bangladesh and Mynamar as per Catalogue of life and east Himalayas as per POWO;
As per keys in Flora of China, Difference appears to be based on inflorescence.
For Ardisia humilis Vahl, Inflorescences terminal, rarely terminating lateral branchlets, subumbellate or cymose in pyramidal panicles, 8-17(-20) cm (FoC illustration).
For Ardisia elliptica Thunberg (syn: Ardisia solanacea (Poir.) Roxb.), Inflorescences axillary or subterminal on basally thickened lateral branches, subumbellate or umbellate.

ID please. it is Ardisia solanacea I think it is Mahua flower. thank you for the comment; but am convinced that this is Ardisia solanacea. your plant is Ardisia solanacea for sure. But as per my observation goes.. Ardisea petals are pink… and often purple tinged..
But the present plant is having white petals…

When comparing both sp, Ardisia solanacea is double plant body then A elliptica entirely. eFlora of China says: Kindly note that the photographs were sent to me, i havent myself seen the live plant. Im assisting a young man who is making a native plant nursery to replant local species on the hill near his village in Madanapalle District, Andhra Pradesh. For some unknown reason, he is unwilling to directly engage with efloraofindia, tho i have showed how easy it is multiple number of times.
i have asked him to send me better pictures with better detail and more information on the dimensions when he is able to visit the location again with the purpose of collecting fruit and seeds for his nursery.
Im sorry that i cant help much in this endeavor to clarify Ardisia solanacea and A. elliptica at this point.
May i request … to upload pictures of the two specimens he has access to? The efloraofindia database doesn’t have any pictures expressly of A. solanacea and that gap could be thus filled. I have kept observations of both (due to difficulty in segregating them as well as Catalogue of life treats both as same) at I am just an amateur gardener interested in native species, for reforestry and landscaping, actually more interested in the biology and ecology of plants. efloraofindia is very useful in identifying new plants i come across tho the identify is just the starting point of any understanding. Taxonomical details are not that important for me, personally. But it is very important for efloraofindia that every record is properly classified. I thought that the above debate about the difference between A. elliptica and A. solanacea could be clarified by you since you mentioned that you have access to both and hence, i suggested that you enlighten efloraofindia with a proper photographic documentation. As efloraofindia is based on voluntary contribution, … did not ask you directly and i, perhaps rudely, went above my station with my request.
