Need your help for ID of this please.
Smilax zeylanica and Smilax ovalifolia are two different sp., is it ?
FOI giving both names for same plant.
Both are separate species according to the Plant List What about the ID of above post? I think may be more closer to Smilax ovalifolia Roxb. ex D.Don rather than Smilax zeylanica L. (based on the relative size of the umbel and pedicels therein) It could be … This has been verified as Smilax wallichii Kunth ! Location: Sundarijal, Kathmandu

What is the habit of the plant? Herbaceous climbing plant. Thin forest of short trees. Shady. ‘Herbaceous climbing plant’
Smilax seems to be the best possibility. Leaf and inflorescence (type) are good matches for Smilax. Is it Smilax elegans subsp. elegans (accepted name) ??
Altitude and fruiting season is as per the following link.
Is this also the same plant from different location ?? Date : 10 May 2014

Smilax lanceifolia Roxb. ??
Smilax wallichii Kunth IDENTITY OF A SPINY CLIMBER : 9 posts by 6 authors. Attachments (2) Smilax sp. Possibly Heterosmilax? seems to be what was once called “aw green climber”, a smilax sp. once for a few years grown /shown in the greenhouses at NYBG. they were studying the taxonomic revisions. don’t have time to track those things now. i am sure some botany professor will know Looks like Smilax sp. Smilax wallichii Date : 07-09-218
Habit : Climber
Habitat : Wild Smilax wallichiiKunth Pl. send a high resolution image, to show the petiole clearly.
To me it looks different from images at Smilax wallichii Smilax ovalifolia Roxb. ex D.Don may be possible as per images and details herein and as per comparative images at Smilax
On further scrutiny, maybe also Smilax lanceifolia Roxb. 1 high resolution image. ID was from Smilax expert from Nepal ! Maybe. Both appear to be quite close. We have to find the difference between the two. Can you ask him ? . MS,Jan.,2021/10 Smilax sp. for id: 1 high resolution image. Date : 30-06-2018
Habit : Climber
Habitat : Wild I think it may be Smilax lanceifolia Roxb. as per images and details herein. This may also be the same as in ‘MS, Jan.,2021/09 Smilax sp. for I’d.’
Location: Suryavinayak, Bhaktapur, Nepal
Date: 02 March 2023
Elevation: 1364 m.
Habit : Wild How is it different from images at Any keys? It says inflorescence single umbel, costate, trinerved for S.lanceifolia and branched umbel, costate, trinerved or triplinerved for S.wallichii I will further examine, with the detailed descriptions. As per keys, it should be S.lanceifolia.
I have not found a description of S.wallichii on the net.
Can you post it here for further examination? Here are the details:
All these points of it being S.lanceilfolia. Please have a look at these two images, one each from Suryabinayak, S. wallichii having all leaf venation emerging from the base of the leaf, and from Phulchoki, S. lanceifolia having leaf venation emerging differently from the base of the leaf.
May I have your opinion please !
2 images Based on detailed description and keys, 1st one is S.lanceifolia and 2nd one is S. wallichii. This is Smilax wallichii Kunth ! No, it is S.lanceifolia On detailed checking as per your another post (Smilax lanceifolia Roxb.), both these images are of S.lanceifolia. I have already sent you keys for all sp. from his book. But those are not correct as they lead to wrong identification. He has suggested to refer to the Flora of taiwan. But no keys available online as in I checked with our observations in eFI. But these keys and illustrations also does not satisfy the difference between the two. Better to ask the Expert Sh. Subedi (?). Nepali Name : कुकुरडाइनु Kukuradaainu . Location: Suryavinayak, Bhaktapur, Nepal
