Plant for ID : Mumbai : 011111 : AK-3:   A potted plant at Maharashtra Nature Park, could have been found growing wild in the original place.

I was able to see the buds on 17th August and fruits on 22nd Sept,11 during my visits to the park.
Missed out on the flowers.
Was told by the Dy Director that he had specially planted it as it attracts butterflies.

On checking at FOI, It looks similar to Leea asiatica, common name Banchalita.
Experts kindly confirm please.


I think it is Leea asiatica (L.) Ridsdale (Syn: Leea aspera Edgew.). But Leea aspera Wall. ex G. Don (Syn: Leea macrophylla Roxb. ex Hornem.) is a different plant and has leaves that are 1-3 pinnate.

The blackish fruits were spotted in the Aarey forest in November 2016. It was a bush, may be 3-4 feet in height, I forgot to take the pic of the whole plant.

These keys are at variance in particular L.guineensis (as only L.rubra has red petals from inside) from those at Leea and also winged stem and petioles in case of L.asiatica is a bit confusing as Flora of China did not mention anything like this.
