Diffuse herbs; branches radiating from a perennial stout root stock. Leaves to 1.5 x 0.5 cm, oblanceolate, obtuse, hairy below. Racemes to 6 cm long, terminal; bracts and bracteoles minute. Flowers 10 mm long, yellow; calyx 9 mm long; lobes unequal; standard 8 mm across, orbicular, hairy on back; wings 8 x 3 mm, rugose; keel glabrous. Pods 9 x 3 mm, obovate, glabrous; seeds few. This species has an extemely wide range. It is native in India, China and many countries in South East Asia from Pakistan to the Philippines and extending south to Papua New Guinea and north to Nepal.
This woody herb is found in dry deciduous and open forests, scrub in jungles and in clearings and open grassland. It is also listed as a weed of rice fields in India (Dubey 2004).
This species is listed as used for medicinal purposes (human as well as veterinary) from a sample site in Andhra Pradesh, India (Shankar et al. 2002). It is recorded as a treatment for warts, especially on the sole of the foot and a juice obtained from the roots is given for indigestion in Nepal (Manandhar and Manandhar 2002).
