Is falsa the same as the fruit found in Maharashtra and called Kali Maina? No. Phalsa is some Grewia species.

Yellow flowers small round fruits about 1-1.5 cm. To me it looks like Grewia looks like Grewia tilifolia ? Yes this is Grewia tiliaefolia Grewia species for sure . Whether this is T. tiliaefolia or T.asiatica I think this is Grewia asiatica

Yes it is Grewia asiatica. If it is growing wild in Western ghats it is most likely Grewia tilaefolia. A reply from another thread (https://groups.google.com/indiantreepix/thread/e8… In G. tiliaefolia the peduncles should be shorter than petioles (here it doesn’t look so). Grewia asiatica. in my area it is called Falsa and the fruits are really very tasty with a sweet sour taste….

Here it is. Actually when the tree was flowering in Delhi, all older leaves had almost fallen and new were emerging along with flowers. Here is a few which were still to fall.

I need the details of cultivation of Grewia asiatica in India.
If anyone know the exact cultivation locality or cultivators number or address please pass the information. That is very much useful to me. It seems It is being cultivated in Pakistan It is also cultivated in our Northern Area. It is cultivated by one farmer in his farm, mitmita village, Aurangabad (M.S.) India and i also collected from the same locality. Actually these species was described by Linnaeus from the material of surat (cultivated) but when i visited the surat Dist. and many gardens of surat i am unable to collected it from surat. I think these images may be of Grewia asiatica L. as Peduncles much longer than petioles as per keys in BSI Flora of India Its very difficult to convey the species, but yes it appears to Grewia asiatica to me!!

If you believe this to be Dhaman, then it should be the right one.
The farm belongs to an Indian, so I found trees which we see in India. I think these images may be of Grewia asiatica L. as Peduncles much longer than petioles as per keys in BSI Flora of India For me, it appears to be Grewia asiatica.

Id please Grewia tilliaefolia also called as Dhaman in Marathi. It is a medium sized tree though. Sorry, G. tiliaefolia If this is a shrub and the drupes are 4 lobed, then it could be Grewia

However, this could be mostly Grewia damine (Syn. Grewia bicolor, Grewia salvifolia). efi page on Grewia damine & Grewia asiatica 1. Leaves broad, strongly 5 or more nerved –
2. Leaves narrow, 3 nerved –
(i) leaves densely pubescent above as well as closely hoary beneath; petals notched = orbiculata
(ii) leaves sparsely pilose or pubescent or at length glabrescent above; petals entire; flower buds clavate = asiatica
Hope this resolves the issue. I think more closer to images at Grewia asiatica L. I think … is correct. Fruits also have resemblance, when compared with the pictures available on G.asiatica fruits.
