Native of: Afghanistan, China, Japan, Indian subcontinent, Indo-China, Malesia; naturalized elsewhere

Cynoglossum zeylanicum looks similar to C. lanceolatum (flowers 2-2.5 mm across) but easily differentiated by larger (4-5 mm across) flowers. Also leaves are short-appressed hairy and not with long bulbous-based hairs.

I was wondering of seeing the same plant in the Western Ghats – especially because of the registered sight of four nutlets !
Yes Cynoglossum zeylanicum. The species looks similar to C. lanceolatum (flowers 2-2.5 mm across) but easily differentiated by larger (4-5 mm across) flowers. Also leaves are short-appressed hairy and not with long bulbous-based hairs.

Requesting to please provide ID of this Boraginaceae member captured near Satara, Maharashtra in October 2014.
Is this Cynoglossum zeylanicum?
I think yes Cynoglossum zeylanicum as per images herein.
Based on the 2nd pic of the whole plant, the flowers seem to be very tiny. Any chance of this being C. lanceolatum?
I request you to pl. post original image of 2nd picture. Hopefully, we are able to see the leaves and decide.
Attached is a cropped image. The leaves can be seen on the left and right sides of the image.
Hopefully, this will help.

For me this looks like Cynoglossum zeylanicum (Vahl ex Hornem.) Thunb. ex Lehm.
But definitely from Boraginaceae family
Many thanks … me too think so.
Let us wait for more comment(s).
My guess would be Paracaryopsis sps from the same family. Found them scattered throughout the Kaas plateau…
Attaching my find… Attachments (2)
P1240377.jpg & P1240381.jpg show spheroid fruit with glochids on its surface … would therefore think of Cynoglossum zeylanicum (the correct name could be Cynoglossum furcatum) … Paracaryopsis coelestina (current name: Adelocaryum coelestinum) would have cup-like fruit with glochids on its periphery.
The intent of query is to know if there are any other species of Cynoglossum reported from this part of Sahyadri.
Please correct my thoughts, if wrong.
Paracaryopsis sp of boraginaceae. I have seen these flowers in Dudhani, near Matheran. These are butterflies favourite flower.
I too think this is Paracaryopsis sp., saw the same at Matheran, Mah., last month.
Please give me the latest reference in Indian flora which I do not have.
Sorry …, unfortunately I do not have any reference other than few Images. By latest reference did you mean reference in efl pages…?
I have the following nomenclature and citation available. The Plant List shows the name applied by you as to be an accepted name. I want to know whether there is any recent reference in India for this name, such as Flora Karnataka, Fl. Hassan Dist., Fl. Bangalore dist., etc.
Paracaryopsis coelestina (Llndl.) R.R.Mill. in Edinbrgh J. Bot. 48: 57. 1991. Cynoglossum coelestinum Lindl. in Edwards’s Bot. Reg. 25: t. 36. 1839; Paracaryum coelestinum (Lindl.) Benth. & Hook.f., Gen. Pl. 2: 850. 1876; C.B.Clarke in Hook.f., Fl. Brit. India 4: 160. 1883; T. Cooke, Fl. Bombay 2: 218. 1904 [2: 285. 1967, (Repr. ed.)]; Gamble, Fl. Madras 901. 1923 [2: 633. 1967, (Repr. ed.)]. Echinospermum coelestinum (Lindl.) Wight, Icon. Pl. Ind. Orient. 4(2): t. 1394. 1848.
Finally the name applied by you:
Adelocaryum coelestinum (Lindl.) Brand in Repert. Spec. Nov. Regni Veg. 13: 549 1915.
I want to know the correct and latest name to be applied for the species.
Kindly refer The Digital flora of Karnataka @ http://florakarnataka.ces.iisc.ernet.in/hjcb2/herbsheet.php?id=954&cat=1. The page contains the nomenclature and some Images but not any description.
Thank you … once again.
Now I find from the link that Keshava Murthy and Yoganarasimhan in Flora of Coorg District in 1990, applied this name probably derived from the Plant List. The combination under Paracaryopsis was made in 1991. We have to request for the expert opinion about the generic name to be adopted by us.
I think it should be Cynoglossum zeylanicum (Lehm.) Brand

pl id the boraginancea member photographed at Babudangiri,
Chickamagalur, Karnataka (western ghat complex) +1600mtr asl.
It could be the Common Hill Borage [Adelocaryum coelestium].
Sorry for the poor quality picture taken long back in 2007 on Kas plateau.
I can see some spiny seed pods will it be a clue to indicate the species…? hmmm

Yes it is..!! This could be some species of Cynoglossum
Check with Cynoglossum coelestinum
it think it should be Cynoglossum zeylanicum
identification no151111sn1:
It has been tentatively identified as Cynoglossum, which species is it.To me it looks closer to Cynoglossum furcatum.kindly identify. Taken at Mulshi, Pune in Sept11.
Yes, this is Cynoglossum zeylanicum (Vahl ex Hornem.) Thunb. ex Lehm.
Syn:
Anchusa zeylanica Vahl ex Hornem.
Cynoglossum denticulatum A.DC. var. zeylanicum (Vahl ex Hornem.) Clarke in Hook.
Cynoglossum furcatum Wall. in Roxb.
I think Cynoglossum lanceolatum.
I photographed the same in Mulshi 2 months back.
These members Cynoglossum, Heliotropium, Myrosotis, should be never photographed without fruits. Flowers can always be deceptive.
That was an important statement. I was also not aware about this before.
About Cyanoglossum of Western ghats : a species is observed on planes while another grows on hill slopes. This knowledge about the habitat is also important….
I think matches with images at Cynoglossum zeylanicum (Lehm.) Brand
One more shot showing habit.. Attachments (1)
Seems to be a member of Boraginaceae family.
Thanks …, actually I posted this with a wrong subject line…
I think closer to Cynoglossum zeylanicum (Lehm.) Brand as per images herein.

I think Myosotis sylvatica or some other species, close up of flower needed

We have Trigonotis tibetica And T.rotundifolia in kashmir.
It matches with Trigonotis microcarpa.
Ok …!

Cynoglossum zeylanicum (Vahl ex Hornem.) Thunb. ex Lehm.:
Can someone give the correct accepted name for the above sp.?
Names with authority are valid :
As per POWO – Cynoglossum zeylanicum (Sw. ex Lehm.) Thunb. ex Brand
https://powo.science.kew.org/names:60468539-2
Cynoglossum zeylanicum Wight ex Wall. as per International plants name index: https://ipni.org/n/115325-1
I think people are following different names. I lost track of the lATEST RULES / GUIDELINES ON TAXONOMIC NOMENCLATURE, THOUGH i PRACTICED TAXONOMY AS A TAXONOMIST, IN THE BEGINNING OF MY RESEARCH CAREER. sWITCHED OVER TO OTHER FIELDS AS PER THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE nATIONAL LABORATORY WHERE I COMPLETED MY CAREER.
In my view … who is practicing taxonomy as his career will be the proper person to clarify the naming game of plants today !!!
