Another first for me and I was quite excited to have found it—a bruised plant first and then a group of 5-6 plants on a slope difficult to reach for a good photograph. Flowers had a strong aroma and seedpod like pods were either empty or had a cottony filling. Please advise if I am wrong in identifying it.

I photographed the first buds this season on 5 March and visited the same plants at least twice a week. On 18 March, I found some flowers out, on the 20th some more and finally on the 23rd I photographed the full spikes open. Here are some photographs.
All photos of this Calanthe plantaginea are taken above Dal Lake at about 1950m on the mountain path to Guna Devi temple.
Location : Kalatope sanctuary Chamba
The plant here is Calanthe plantaginea Lindl., Gen. Sp. Orchid. Pl.: 250 (1833). It has been reported from Himachal in past but your collection seems to have been made after a long gap.
Himachal is very much unexplored with respect to orchids. I remember in one week of my stay in Himachal we found 4 new records for the state. Unfortunately we couldnt publish them somehow.
The Calanthe season is in full swing… as id’d by ….. Calanthe plantaginea
